He excelled academically and also learned to play the violin. After completing his basic education, he pursued medical studies at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil, earning his Doctor of Medicine degree. His career path later led him to Houston, where he decided to focus on cardiology, choosing the Texas Heart Institute (THI). He was particularly drawn to regenerative cardiology, beginning to explore the body&#8217;s potential in this field. After conducting numerous scientific experiments and studying the work of international colleagues, he achieved significant breakthroughs. His research on stem cells and their application in treating cardiac diseases yielded clinically proven results. As a result, the leadership of the Texas Heart Institute established a specialized department \u2014 the Stem Cell Center \u2014 with Dr. Emerson C. Perin at the helm. By 1998, he had led several clinical trials on regenerative stem cell therapy, producing phenomenal results.
